Beginning with his early days as a pitcher for the Red Sox, Ruth wielded a Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger war club almost exclusively through his retirement in 1935. His association with the brand led to his store model—the famous "40BR"—being the bat that every aspiring ballplayer wanted to own; it thus became one of its manufacturer's best-selling products. Offered here is a genuinely fascinating 35-inch brown Louisville Slugger 40 B.R. store model Babe Ruth bat bearing a splendid autograph inked by the legend. His immediately recognizable, fountain-penned signature concedes a bit of bleeding into the wood that carries it, but the scripting's sheer power remains undiminished. The 1931-era bat displays "George 'Babe' Ruth" engraved into the barrel between the block-letter trademark and patent stampings; these elements reveal a number of spots where friction has exacted a toll. The H&B logo component is accompanied by a graphic "Bone Rubbed" embellishment to the right and a small, printed notation ("Wills") in an unknown hand to the left.
